Infant Safety Product
There's not one single infant safety product that's most important for everyone. It really depends on the kind of house you have and the things you have in or around your house.
An Important Infant Safety Product
One infant safety product you will need right from the start is a car seat. Be aware, however, that car seats should always be purchased brand new so you can be sure that the seat has not been damaged in any way. In addition, new car seats will come with an instruction manual. This is key since an improperly installed car seat can be dangerous or cause injury to your infant if there's an accident. To ensure infant safety, make sure you get a rear-facing car seat until the child reaches age one and weighs at least 20 pounds. And as the baby grows, you'll need to be sure that you get a car seat that's the appropriate size for them.
As we said, the kind of house you have and the things in or around it depend on what kinds of infant safety products you need. But one thing is certain--all houses have electrical outlets, which makes outlet covers the most important infant safety product you can buy. Some outlet covers cover the outlet entirely, some have locks, some slide and some just plug into the outlet. They are generally inexpensive, so there's no reason for you not to have them.
Another thing most homes have is cabinets and drawers. More things for a curious baby to open! Hopefully, you moved cleaners and other chemicals to higher shelves and knives or scissors out of drawers before your baby was crawling around, but that's not always an option. Therefore, another important infant safety product you need is cabinet and drawer locks.
Other Important Infant Safety Products
Most of today's homes have stairs somewhere in the house, and toddlers who crawl and are trying to walk love trying to climb stairs. This is fine, but what about when they are at the top of the stairs? You don't want them to fall down the stairs. In this case, a baby safety gate is probably one of the most important infant safety products after outlet covers. But you have to be careful about what kind of baby gate you get. Pressure-mount baby gates aren't the safest. Believe it or not, babies can get these to come loose. The best ones are the kind you mount to the wall. So what if it leaves holes? It's nothing a little spackle and paint can't fix a few years from now when the gate comes down.
If you have a pool, you should be able to enjoy it and relax in it without worrying that your toddler will get into it when you aren't around. That being said, you should have a pool fence so that your baby or toddler can't get to the pool unless you are with them. Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for children under the age of five, and a pool fence is a safety product that no pool owner with small children should be without. It's the best way to ensure child safety around the pool area.
As you can see, there's not just one infant safety product that supercedes all others.
