Fire Safety Week Events

Fire safety week events are mainly geared towards kids, but adults can benefit from fire safety week events as well.

Fire Safety Week Events

It's here again--fire safety week! Do you know what fire safety week events are happening in your area?

Fire Safety Week Events in School

Fire safety week is the perfect time for schools to teach kids about fire safety. We all remember "Stop, Drop and Roll" and Smokey the Bear, right? What about Sparky the Fire Dog? How many of us learned all about these things in school? Probably most of us. In some cases, fire departments will hold fire safety week events at local schools by either doing a presentation and even bringing their fire trucks in and letting kids get on the truck, honk the horn, etc. Other fire safety week events might include open houses at fire stations or tours of fire stations. If you take your kids to a fire station for a tour, you can bet they'll get an education in fire safety as well. Plus, fire stations have plenty of literature on fire safety.

Fire Safety at Home

You might think your home is safe from fires, and you'd know what to do in the event of a fire, but if you attend one of your community's fire safety week events, you'll probably learn something new. Then there are the "shoulds." for example, you know you should have a fire escape plan for your family, but do you? You know you should have a smoke detector in every room, or at least two in your house, but do you? Actually, if you have a house that was built in the last 10-20 years, you probably do. But do you check your smoke alarm batteries at least once a year? And since candle safety is the theme of fire safety week this year, we bet you'll learn a lot about candle safety that you didn't know if you attend one of the many fire safety week events you'll find--if you look for them.
