Backyard Safety Product

What's the best backyard safety product you can buy? That all depends on what you have in the backyard and what kind of family you have.

The Smartest Backyard Safety Product
Chances are, if you've found this page, you have something in your backyard that's worth protecting, and chances are that's your family or a pet of some sort. If this is the case, you might want to seriously consider getting a fence around the perimeter of your backyard. It's the smartest backyard safety product you can buy.

Obviously there are many types of fences out there--chain link, wood privacy and picket just to name a few. Generally, chain link is unattractive and it's easy to climb, so it's not the best choice for protection. Wooden privacy fences are nice, but they do require a lot of maintenance and upkeep. You have to pain or stain them to keep them looking nice, but eventually, weather takes its toll. The best kind of fence is a PVC picket fence. Not only are these types of fences attractive and durable, but they are low maintenance and don't weather like wooden picket or privacy fences do.

No matter what kind of fence you choose, you need to make sure of two things:

It can't be climbed
It has a lock

These two things are necessary to keep intruders out and pets and children in.

Another reason a fence is a good backyard safety product is if you have a pool. You may not have kids or pets, but if you have a pool, and a neighbor's child wanders into that pool and an accident occurs, you could be held liable if you don't have a fence around your yard. To really ensure backyard safety, install a pool fence in addition to a backyard fence.

Other Considerations
If you have kids, chances are you have one or more of the following in your backyard:

A swing set
A trampoline
Various toys

When it comes to having a swing set, make sure the chains on the swings are covered with some sort of vinyl material. This reduces the risk of little fingers getting caught in the chains. Also, make sure there's plenty of cushioning under the swing set. You can set all the rules you want for playing on a swing set, but kids will be kids, and they will jump off the swing set or fall off. Putting about 9-12 inches of cushioning under the swing set is a backyard safety product that gives the kids an extra measure of protection and gives you peace of mind.

If you have a trampoline, you should have cushioning under it as well. But you should also make sure it has a safety net around the perimeter to sort of "catch" kids who bounce out of control.

When it comes to toys in the backyard, make sure they're put away when the kids finish playing with them. If you're mowing and trip on a toy you didn't see or run over a toy with the blade of the mower, it can turn into a dangerous situation.

Home Safety
A backyard safety product you might not have thought of is a motion detector light. If a burglar is trying to break in to your house, chances are he'll flee if a light comes on. Burglars generally don't want to be seen or caught, so if a light goes on, it means either someone's home and heard something or that a neighbor could see them trying to break in. They'll usually run rather than risk it. If you don't have an alarm system, this is one of the best home safety products you can buy to keep your house from being broken into. It's good to have one in the front of the house and the back of the house for maximum security, but more often than not, you find them in people's backyards. It's one of the best backyard safety products you can install.
