Home Safety Products

In today's world, it seems like there are more dangers than ever. Or else we just hear about bad things that happen more. Fortunately, there are home safety products that enable us to keep our homes and families safer than ever.

Keep 'Em Out
There are lots of things you can do to keep intruders out of your home, the most basic of which are locks. There are lots of different kinds of locks--push button, doorknob, bolt, chain and others. The best locks are double bolts--one that uses a key and one that doesn't. Push button locks just make it easy for thieves to break in. Of course, anything above and beyond a double bolt (such as a chain, slide lock, doorknob lock, etc.) is just going to make it more difficult for anyone to break in, so adding those things is a good idea.

You also need extra protection for sliding doors. There are "pin locks" that you can add that make it virtually impossible to open a slider, even if it's unlocked. In addition, it's a good idea to have a door bar. Of course, with a slider, if you aren't at home, a thief who wants in badly enough won't let a slider stop him. He'll simply break the glass--that is, if he knows you're not there. And there are ways to make people think you're home (even when you're not). First of all, have your newspaper delivery stopped during the time that you'll be gone. That way newspapers don't accumulate--a dead giveaway that you're gone. Also, if you don't have a community mail area with individual locked boxes, have the post office hold your mail while you're gone. Beyond that, you can purchase motion detector lights. These are excellent home safety products to have installed even when you are home. If it's one thing thieves hate, it's light. There's too much of a risk of getting caught if there's a light. And if the light comes on when they move, it's an indication to them that someone might be home.

Of course the ultimate home safety products are burglar alarms. A good alarm system and alarm company will attach sensor to each door and window in your house to alert you anytime a door is opened or closed. Even if you can't afford an alarm system, there are other home safety products that are just as effective, like a device that makes the sound of a dog barking whenever someone's at the door or even a simple sticker you can put on your window to indicate that you have an alarm system. Sometimes, that's deterrent enough.

Non-Theft Related
There are other home safety products that are not related to keeping people out. Instead, these safety products are aimed at keeping your family safe in the event of fire or carbon monoxide. You probably know what we're talking about--smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers. The newest safety product of these three is carbon monoxide detector. Since carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas, it's hard to tell when you're breathing it in. That's why it's good to have a carbon monoxide detector.

The aforementioned fire safety products really don't need any explanation since they've been around so long. Everyone knows that smoke detectors are designed to get your family out of the house safely in the event of a fire and that a fire extinguisher can put out a small fire before it gets out of hand.

Don't Fence Me In
Finally, we get to fences. Fences are another thing thieves don't want to have to deal with, but they also keep your kids and pets safe. And if you have a pool, a pool fence is one of the most important outdoor child safety products or toddler safety products you can own.
