Safety glasses are essential for many

If your job, or any other endeavor that you pursue, involves hazards from dust, flying objects or particles that could strike you in the face, you should be using safety glasses. Even if you usually wear a face shield in operations like welding or grinding, you still need to wear safety glasses under your shield. The best things about it these days is that there are more and more styles on the market- now you can even choose styles for your safety glasses.

What's the difference between safety glasses and regular glasses?

The main difference between regular glasses and safety glasses is their resistance to impact, even if the two look very similar. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) sets all standards for safety glasses. They require that these particular safety products are able to withstand the impact of a steel ball traveling 150 feet per second. Glasses that have been tested are stamped with the imprint "Z87" on them.

It is important to keep in mind that most safety glasses protect you only from impact from the front. If you are performing tasks that entail danger from every direction you need to consider another safety product like googles or glasses with side shields. Or you can use a face shield to cover all other exposed areas of the face and neck. These are not just things to consider while on the job. If you are doing similarly dangerous work at home be sure that you also provide for home safety by acquiring all the products you need that will offer the same protection in your work area at home.

Although your safety glasses will provide protection from accidental injury, they cannot withstand repeated impact or abuse. Make sure that you inspect them on a regular basis for scratches, cracks, or other wear. Replace them is they are found to be scratched, cracked, or bent. A baby safety product is good.
