Toddler Safety Products

Remember when your baby couldn't walk or crawl? Life was much simpler. But when he started crawling, he started opening doors and getting into things you never thought he could. And when he started walking.....well, that's a whole other set of problems. Now you need some toddler safety products so he doesn't hurt himself.

Outlets, Tables, Cabinets, Stairwells, Drawers....

....these all present potential hazards to toddlers. Fortunately, there are toddler safety products out there for all those things. If you really aren't sure what dangers are present to your child in your house, get down on his level and take a look around. Not only that, but watch to see what he thinks looks "interesting." For some reason, babies think outlets look interesting. That's why outlet covers are one of the more widely used toddler safety products on the market.

Another popular safety product during this time is a baby safety gate. You don't want your baby or toddler toppling down the stairs, and these gates will remove the temptation. Not only that, but they can keep pets from your child if you want them to stay away from your toddler. (You don't want them to be afraid of each other, but you don't want your toddler to be scared by the pet either. Often times, the pet is bigger than the toddler, and that can be scary to a little one.)

Other useful toddler safety products are drawer and cabinet locks. There are even toilet seat and refrigerator door locks. Not only can little hands get smashed in doors and drawers, but often there are things inside that they should not have access to. If you don't have anywhere else to store these items, a cabinet lock is an absolute must.

There are also lesser-known toddler safety products that many parents don't even know about. They are table corner guards. Think about it--when your baby is crawling, he likes to pull himself up. Sometimes, it's right into a table corner. Or when they are crawling, they might not see the edge of a table until it's too late, or when they're learning to walk, they might fall into the corner of a table. Table corner and edge guards help to soften that blow. Then maybe the worst thing that would happen is a little scare.

Some people might think that there's really not a need for any of these safety products if you can teach the toddler to avoid these problem areas altogether. But you'd have to be able to watch him 24/7. What happens when the phone rings, the oven timer goes off, the doorbell rings, you go to grab some laundry...whatever the case may be and you have to take your eye off him for a split second. Sometimes that's all it takes for trouble to occur.

Of course, another key to keeping your toddler safe is keeping your home safe. You can do this by having the proper home safety products like good locks, maybe an alarm system and fire safety products like a smoke detector and a fire extinguisher.
